Relax, Unwind, De-connect

Posted by admin on Jul 12, 2010

“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh………..The contented sigh of relaxation. I bet you want to feel that relaxed? We all have stress in our lives and are searching for any way to relax and drop the stresses of the world. With the hectic scheduling of children or family members, work, friends, and trying to compete with our neighbors, we’re constantly stressed. The beeping of text messages, the need to feel like we are always connected to the internet via our mobile devices, the constant online social networking all contribute to the overwhelming stress we feel.

How can you relieve that stress? Can you find the way to get away from your cell phone, the computer, work, and other duties for even just thirty minutes a day? If so, try one of the following relaxation techniques:

My favorite way to relax is to get a massage. Massages are designed to relieve tension from muscles and relax the client. You can choose from a traditional relaxing Swedish massage or from a variety of specialty massages. One popular form of specialty massage is the hot stone massage. Hot stone massages are excellent ways to relax; the massage therapist puts heated massage stones on your back and uses the stones to massage your muscles. The added heat helps relieve the tension in your stressed muscles. A hot stone massage would be an excellent recommendation as a way to relieve stress.

Of course, massages do cost money. A good massage will cost you anywhere from $30 to $100. It’d be hard to afford that kind of money on a weekly basis. And furthermore, most folks aren’t able to the the hour of time it would require. But there are other methods of relaxing that might not cost as much money.

However, a hot soak in the tub each night is also very relaxing and costs you nothing. When I get home from work, I like to run a tub full of hot water and just soak in the warmth for twenty to thirty minutes. The warmth helps relax my muscles, and I truly feel like I’m washing away the stress of the day. You can add essential oils, light scented candles, or perhaps have a nice glass of red wine. All of these activities help you relax and forget about the stresses of the day.

There are those crazy people that just can. They need some form of excersise to let the stress go. Therefore, those folks might enjoy yoga. Not only does yoga help relax you, it is also an excellent way to build stamina, endurance, and flexibility. You can attend yoga classes at most health clubs or universities, or you can purchase a how-to video and do some yoga poses at home. Exercise of any kind is a good way to help you release some stress, but yoga in particular is an excellent stress reliever.

We are all influenced by some form of stress from the hectic lifestyles we lead. Most of us end the work day, and especially the work week, with aching muscles, tight necks, knotted shoulders, and too much tension to relax. We need to find ways to relax, to unwind, to de-connect from the computer, the cell phone, the work emails.

Ancient Technique Of Stone Massage

Posted by admin on Jul 2, 2010

A growing number of people are becoming more conscious of the connection between the environment and their health, from going “green” to buying organic foods, and now to using natural stones to heal the body.  Heated stones of different shapes and sizes are commonly used during a massage to help muscles release underlying tension and relax. It is a technique that works quicker at making muscles relax than massage alone.

Hot stone massage is a specialty form that combines the techniques of Swedish massage, or other forms of massage, with the soothing effects of smooth, natural stones gently heated by water.  When left to rest on the body, the heat from the stones penetrates the body, and warms and relaxes the muscles more quickly than massage alone.  Placing stones along the client’s spine, on top of the stomach, or in the palms are all techniques that therapists may use during a massage session.

Stones are used for several different types of treatment; including deep tissue, facial, pedicure, or on chakra points on the body. A black, volcanic rock called basalt is typically used for its ability to retain heat, but other kinds of stones, such as marble, are also used.  Cold stones can also be used to treat muscle injuries or inflammation.  Besides common discomforts, such as muscle injury and back pain, hot stone massage is sometimes used to treat even more serious conditions such as paralysis and debilitating problems caused by strokes and heart attacks.  It’s important that therapists who use stone massage are properly trained and have experience practicing the technique.  Injury could occur from using too much pressure during the massage or stones that are too hot and could thereby burn.

Hot stones being used to treat the body is an ancient technique that’s been practiced for centuries by ancient people.  In Asia, hot stone massage was used for therapeutic reasons, and Native Americans used stones in sweat lodges.Native Americans value the hot stones so much they began calling them ‘Grandfather Stones.”  Hawaiians used stones for similar purposes as Native Americans, although they used the lava stones called “pohaku” that were more abundant on the islands.  Historical records indicate that hot and cold stones were used by many ancient cultures for a multitude of reasons, including easing pain during labor and childbirth, detecting diseases, and to ward off evil spirits.

Hot stone massage was introduced in the United States in its current form in the early ‘90s.  One of the first people to use it was massage therapist Mary Hannigan, who created a popular technique called LaStone Therapy.  Although acupuncture and other therapies are generally more common than stone therapy, hot stone massage is a technique that is revered for its therapeutic abilities.  In addition to being offered by qualified massage therapists, now many companies make hot stone massage therapy available by selling massage kits and instructional materials for home use. When used by a trained massage therapist, massage therapy is a proven technique to help heal the body.

Sure-Fire Ways To Remember Important Things

Posted by admin on Jul 2, 2010

In these days of constant bustle where technology is constantly thinking of ways to make life easier, people are still being bombarded with things to remember—like the curse of many pin numbers, passwords, pass codes, Social Security numbers, sleep numbers, security questions, etc.  It is completely human to forget things when there are so many things you have to concentrate on, but some steps can be taken to ensure that you can remember such important information without seeming like a robot.  Barring printing up a t-shirt with all those things on it and referring to it when someone asks, here are some surefire ways to make remembering all of these essential phrases and numbers easy and relaxing.

I keep a legal pad handy at all times so I can write things down like passwords and phone numbers; of course you can always use your cell phone.  I am on the Internet all the time, and when I sign up for things, I just jot it down.  If it is sensitive information like ATM pins or pass codes that give access to confidential information, I store them in a special place so only I can access them.

Print confirmation e-mails:  When you sign up for most sites, they usually will send you a confirmation e-mail which includes the date you signed up and your user name and password.  This will save you time when you forget the ever-essential sign-in name and/or password, where you end up waiting for them to reset everything.

Don’t ‘over pin’ yourself:  Don’t make a password or pin number unless you have to.  Setting up accounts usually involves you providing personal information that you don’t want shared, so if you are not going to utilize the site or service often, don’t waste time signing up for it.

Always choose security questions that you will be able to remember at first mention:

Don’t choose “What was your first pet?” if you will have a brain stutter trying to remember that.  Choose questions that you will be able to remember no matter what is going on.

Once you receive your password via mail or email you can store them in yuor safe place with other important documents.  Most companies will do this if you request it.Just ask if you don’t see an option for mailing the information.  Contact them by e-mail or phone number if it is provided.

Realize that some things you have to memorize:  Social Security numbers, Workplace ID passwords, bank pin numbers, and such vital information are safer when it is memorized.  You should only carry your actual Social Security card and vital records if you have to present them.   You don’t want this information in anybody else’s possession.

Nobody is perfect—you may forget things once and a while—but if you develop a routine, these memory lapses would occur less and less often.  These tips can be used as “massage stones” to help alleviate the brain from frustration.Any information about you is critical; you don’t want to be a victim of identity theft or forgetfulness.

10 Great Massage Tips

Posted by admin on Jun 27, 2010

A resort massage can be a great highlight to an already terrific vacation. A far cry from the chaotic reality of the metropolis, the calming ambience of a vacation resort can do wonders for your stressed-out mental and physical state. And an excellent way to maximize a vacation trip is to top it off with a relaxing and comforting massage.

It’s very true that a good session is due in large part to the skill and expertise of your therapist. However, it is significant to know that the client also plays a role in making the experience a truly blissful one.

To get the most out of your massage, here are some tips that you can follow:

1. Drink plenty of water before and after the session. This will enhance the benefits of the therapy.

2. Don’t eat for at least an hour before and after a massage. If you must, opt for light crackers or snacks instead of a full heavy meal.

3. Don’t be late for your appointment. You need time to cool down and relax before your session. Arrive minutes early to give yourself time to enjoy the sauna or steam bath that the resort’s massage center may have.

4. If you’re not comfortable about receiving it in nude, be sure to speak up. It’s important that you feel comfortable during the session. Don’t be shy to talk to the therapist about it.

5. Don’t hesitate to talk to the therapist about other issues you might have like what amount of pressure or speed of movement you’re comfortable in. Discuss your wants about music, aroma, room temperature, or lighting.

6. If you would like, it is completely alright to chat a bit with your therapist. But don’t feel obliged to open a conversation when you’d rather sleep or indulge in the massage silently.

7. Loosen up. Tight muscles are sometimes challenging to de-stress.

8. Relax. Don’t think about the load of laundry waiting for you at home or the deadline that your monstrous boss has been bugging you about all week. The key to having an enjoyable massage is to let your mind rest. Imagine yourself in a tranquil place while enjoying the sensual pleasure of touch on your skin.

9. Do not get off the table right away if you feel light headed or a little dizzy after the session. Allow for some quiet time to cool down and rest.

10.It’s a good idea to give your massage therapist a 15-20% tip if you’re happy with the results.

It’s not a surprise that many people adore getting a massage. Not only is it physically beneficial, but it’s also an efficient way to relax and unwind from the stresses of life. And so that you are able to get the best massage experience even when you’re in a vacation is to find a skilful therapist and to follow these simple but useful tips.

Do It Yourself Spa

Posted by admin on Jun 20, 2010

You can now enjoy the benefits of day spa treatments in the comfort of your own home. It’s really not necessary to pay for expensive spa treatments when you can get the same results at home. Purchasing the necessary supplies is easy, and at-home day spa treatments also offer the chance for a more personalized routine. Additionally, at-home day spa treatments, such as massages, can be an excellent way for you and your partner to connect.

There are a few supplies necessary for your at-home spa, but the essentials are relatively inexpensive when compared to the price of a visit to a regular day spa. You also have the option of only buying the supplies that cater to your particular needs, meaning that you aren’t paying the day spas overhead costs for treatments, and you don’t use but things you enjoy, like massage stone therapy. So this makes it much more affordable.

The Essentials of Your At-home
For the person who loves the relaxation of a massage, essential oils are a necessity. These oils are infused with various aromas to induce a variety of moods and stimulate different responses in your mental stat. Some blended oils carry additional health benefits, such as easing headaches and other symptoms of stress-related illnesses.

Essential oils should be organic and high quality for that true luxury day spa experience. High-quality oils do not contain carrier oils, chemicals, or other fillers. Just a few drops of high-quality, essential oil are all that is necessary for a massage as these oils are very pure.

Music, Please, Maestro
As spa regulars can tell you, relaxing music is one of the key ingredients of the day spa experience. Luckily, the home day spa is no exception. Compact Discs and cassette tapes offering relaxation music abound, and can be purchased over the Internet or even in your favorite stores. Including a background of soft music accompanied by natural noises, such as waterfalls or gentle thunder, can make your at-home treatment take on an almost surrealistic effect. Add a partner, essential oils, and some heated massage stones to the music and you have created a nearly perfect romantic evening.

Lighten the Mood
You notice in the last sentence we said a ‘nearly perfect’ romantic evening. No day spa treatment or romantic evening is complete without candlelight. Choose candle colors and scents to blend with the aromas of the essential oils to set the mood for a relaxing evening, such as a white, vanilla-scented tapered candle in an appropriate candle-holder, or a deep red pillar candle on a crystal plate with rose petals.

Dim the lights and spread a soft blanket on the floor or bed. Light the candles and turn on your music. Within a few short moments, you will be contendedly relaxing to the soft sounds of nature and the smooth feeling of the stone massage.

By using these simple tips, you can enjoy the healthy benefits of reduced stress, relaxation, and a closer relationship with your partner, while saving hundreds to thousands of dollars each year.

Give A Hot Stone Massage

Posted by admin on Jun 19, 2010

You don’t have to be a professional therapist to administer the relaxing, soothing relief of hot stone massage. The little or no pressure require makes it an easier techniques to master.

The practice of hot stone therapy dates back to

ancient time. Indian Yogis, Chinese dynasties, Roman gymnasiums and Turkish baths used hot stones to balance the body’s energy and for healing. In modern times people can believe what they want about healing powers and balancing energy. The truth is hot stone massage helps you feel great by allowing the body to relax more deeply.

There isn’t any need to be intimidated by a hot stone massage. Just follow some basic set up and techniques and you’ll be fine. First, let’s talk about the stones themselves. These smooth stones are often basalt, which is a black volcanic rock. They are used for their superior heat retention. You can find stone kits online, but they are a little pricey. When it comes right down to it you can find the same thing down by the river. Professionals use 50 stones, but for your purposes 15-20 stones in varying sizes of flat and round will do the trick. Dark stones retain heat better than light colored stones, and obviously smooth stones feel better against the skin than porous ones.

Once you’ve secured your new hot stones you’re ready to prepare. Spread a sheet or large towel out on the ground or bed. Have another one ready for cover with a few pillowcases or smaller towels nearby. Set a relaxing mood with candles and classical or new age music. The room itself should also be nice and warm.

Now it’s time to heat the stones. The stones need to be heated in water, so a large slow cookere is ideal for keeping a consistent heat. A large pot with a heating plate could also work. Place the stones in the pot and fill with water just until the stones are covered. Adjust the heat so the range is between 120-150 degrees. Let the stones warm in the water for about 20 minutes. Dry them after you pull them out, and have a bowl of cold water standing by in case they are too hot.

Preparation is over, now it’s time for the good part. Start the massage with the person on their stomach with a sheet over them. Place a stone on the upper part of the back to test the heat. If the heat is uncomfortable, place a pillowcase or light towel underneath. If the stone is too cool, place the stones directly on the skin. Arrange eight stones along the spine, and then place a large, flat stone right below the waistline.

While the stones on the back work their heated magic you can use stones to massage each of the person’s legs rubbing the stones in long, smooth strokes without using much pressure. Remember to always push outward toward the extremities. Stones should also be placed on the soles of their feet.

When the back massage is complete have the person turn over with their arms out with palms facing up. Massage the legs first using the same technique as the other side; you can place warm stones in their hands while massing the legs. Move the massage to the arms while the person is still holding the warm stones. Replace them if they have cooled. When done with the arms set aside the stones and use your hands to knead the shoulders, hands and fingers. Finally, apply oil to the top of their chest, and massage with warm stones, and finish the massage with a light scalp massage.

The experience should take about an hour with the benefits of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation lasting long after the stones have cooled.
