Can having a bad massage make you sick?

Posted by admin on Jan 6, 2009

I am currently going through therapy. Massage and physical. The first visit, the next day after the nassage, my left arm was tingling and numb and my ankle felt like jello and felt like it was asleep all day. She also put those electric things on both. Anyone familar with these symptoms? I also became sick. Throwing up.

WIth both activities going on, you’d have a hard time pinning either down as your cause.

Massage releases toxins from your body. If you’ve been injured, and perhaps in a state of inactivity, your body might be having trouble processing all those toxins at once.

A bad massage is actually rather difficult to do. Essentially, you’re just moving the muscles according to their normal motions. Even if you massaged in a very poor way, you’d feel it in a massive constriction of your muscles and joints.

I would suggest that you drink fluids heavily. Help your body flush out whatever has been released.

On the other hand, physical therapy involves movement and motion, which is much more susceptible to furthering injuries. I’m not familiar with this electric treatment, but it sounds like that might be more an aggravate than a reliever.

Give it a day or two. If you still feel like this, contact your therapists for advice and perhaps a little admonishment.

Good Luck!

Any massage, bad or good, can make you sick. When you are receiving a massage, glands and organs and stimulated, and some release toxins. This can make you feel worse after a massage, and maybe even sick. Sometimes people complain about a stuffy nose or nausea after a massage, even if the massage is done properly. This is because certain toxins are being released into the body. After a massage, it really helps if you drink lots of water. This flushes the toxins out of your system. I would talk to your therapist about the tingling and numbness. That is not usually normal, but I am not sure what you are receiving therapy for…
