I was interested if anyone knew of schools that do Equine Massage Certifications in California. I am interested in getting certified. Please, only people with actual knowledge…

You may awnt to check UC Berkley or UCLA. I dont know if this is possible for you but the Kentucky Horse Park offers a certification in this.

Not much help as I am based in the UK. My friend wanted to do this, but was informed she had to get her human massage certification, before she go for the same EMTC, the UK and USA one are interchangeable and recognised by the governing bodies of both countries.

if you are interested in travelling there is an excellent program at the B.C. College of Equine Therapy in British Columbia, Canada. It is the Equine Sport Therapy program, which covers everything from massage to chiropractics, herbal therapies, energy work, saddle fitting, and much much more. I believe the website is http://www.equinetherapy.ca.
Good luck!

First, I would recommend that you check your local licensing laws. There are some states & local jurisdictions where you cannot legally practice animal massage. This is usually due to two reasons. The first is a very limited state veterinary practice act which may limit any type of therapy to vets. The second may be a limited massage therapy practice act, in which licensed massage therapists can ONLY massage the HUMAN body (and nothing else). So check those out first BEFORE investing in your equine massage education. :-)
