Massage Therapy?

I'm currently halfway through college and I'm considering to get into massage therapy. I'm not sure what to do or what classes to take or what massage school to get into, I really don't know much about how to do it. I think it's something I would enjoy. Salary? Hours? Schooling? Thank you.

Most massage therapists start their own business because starting salaries are about $12-$15 an hour.

You need to check what schooling is needed in your state to be licensed as a massage therapist. Each state has a different amount.

Take classes in anatomy and business and marketing while you are in college to get you started.

Go and get about a dozen professional massages or so and talk to the therapists and ask them what their days/life is like. It isn't like the pictures on massage schools websites.

can you major in massage therapy in college? or anything similar to that? I want to be a masseuse and would like to know what you have to major in during college- do you even have to go to college?

No. Massage schools are usually a one year program at privately owned massage schools.

I recommend that you go to college for business and or marketing classes and then if you want become a massage therapist.

The average age for massage therapists is 45 meaning that massage schools are geared toward teaching adults who can work more on their own and have more life experience.

You have to have outstanding customer service skills as well as be emotionally mature because you will have to deal with people who are vulnerable because they take their clothes off and also touch brings up deep emotional issues.

I want to go to Apollo College and Get a degree in Massage Therapy. Does anyone have a ball park estiment in tuition for the 40 – 48 week program??? please help!!!

check out their website…/www.apollocollege.edu I looked at it and it doesn't tell you how much it will be. You can send for information in the mail and that will usually give you a break down of costs etc. I am sure they will be able to help out with financial aid if you need it. Good luck…massage therapy is a wonderful field to work in.

And have looked again and again and the Utah College of Massage therapy as an option. Eventually I want to work overseas (to Australia) and I understand they can even help with placing you there. Any information about this school would be great. I actually live in Denver and they have a branch here (Colorado School of Massage Therapy) but I think it might be better to go to the Salt Lake campus, and I have family there….so…anyone gone there with feedback?

It all depends on what you think makes a better massage school. In reality more education is not necessarily better. Since we learn better in small chunks of time and by getting hands on experience.

What is best is what is best for you which may be different from what someone else needs.
Actually any massage school can teach you the basics for what you need.

Go and visit the schools that you are interested in and talk to the students, teachers and graduates and then compare them.

I do not believe so. Massage therapy is a tech school class.

They charge a hefty $12 000 dollars a year…. U of T the best university in canada charges about $4000 dollars a year. I have a very low I.Q. psychological problems as well: I've gone one year without feeling ANY emotion. I think manual labour as a massage therapist is the only career that I'm suitable for but I heard that you are guranteed to permanently damage your muscles and exhaust yourself if you want to make more than $20.00 an hour.

If you have psych & emotional problems, is a massage career the best choice? Consider the individual interaction with people on a daily basis. It is a very service-oriented profession and it often demands consistently self-managing your time, skills and relationship development. If you are missing appointments, disconnected emotionally from your clientele and not giving yourself enough credit for having some intelligence, then you will find it very difficult to develop a career as a massage therapist. 12g is worth every penny if you turn it into a long term commitment. And true, you could physically work yourself out of employment as well, if you do not properly take care of yourself to maintain the physical workload. If it is truely something you want to do, then go for it, but consider all your options first.
