Hi, I’m a pre-med student age of 21 yrs old and I go to community college to get my associate degree and wil get my 4 yrs of B.S ( bachelor of science) and then it’s medical school which i can’t wait for that day. I do have that very strong passion and Patience to do what ever needs from me in order to become a Dr. like my dad.
But one question that is my mind and it’s important as well, that I need a job beside these long years till I get to my goal .. I’m in a program called Phlebotomy which can help you to get a good job at hospital starting with $ 19 or 20/ hr. shall I do this and at the same time continue with my pre-med major classes ? I need help because some of my Friends told me that I should have FOCUS on my main major .. but I really need a job as well.
NOTE:
I arrived this country on 2005 january, and thank god that I have done almost all of my courses especially Math, English, and my GE ( General Education) which is genera courses that we have to take in order to take that degree. Also, English is my 5th language. I really like school life especially science courses. Appreciate your time for reading my massage and GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
I'm a citizen of U.S. already my dad been here since 60s .

If you are here on a visa, you need to check your visa to see if it allows you to work while you're studying. Some do and some don't. If yours does, you need to ask yourself whether you really can learn what you need to know while working and goign to school at the same time. Maybe you can; you know yourself. Will either your work or your studies suffer because you are doing the other? Don't forget you also need time to get adequate rest, or both your education and your job will suffer greatly. And, since you mentioned God, be sure to leave yourself enough time to spend with Him. Ofttimes when that suffers, everything else suffers and you don't know why.

Pray to see what His will is in this matter. Speak with friends about it. Speak with an older person who can give you some guidance — an older friend or relative. And, by all means, speak with your parents. Be prepared to really listen to them.

God bless you in your studies.

Im conducting a study and i'm gong to see if their is a "trend".

I guess I will go first. My ultimate goal is to operate a successful martial arts school and be an accomplished martial arts fighter/author

I plan on joining the Navy reserves and enter the business management branch or intelligence officer. Then I plan on using military benefits to obtain a further education in physical therapy/massage/sports medicine/ or something along those lines, i havent decided. During this time I will continue to train hard in martial arts and keep plugging my "book".
Eveuntually…..with money saved up….lots of blood, sweat, and tears……I will be well on my way and use these skills to translate into a martial arts school.

I want to get good at martial arts to, but more for personal protection. My career goal is to be a clinical psychologist. Currently, I am studying for the GRE and will be applying to 7 schools for the Fall 2008 term. The schooling will take five years. During my time studying psychology, I will continue to refine my Chinese mainly in the writing. Then I hope to use my Chinese and "expert" status to work in Singapore.

Ok, So 2nd Q. I'm 39 years old. I'm a licensed massage therapist in NYC and would like to go to school for PT. I don't have my undergrad degree. I have a 1.5925 GPA with 33 hrs that are passing out of 54 hours from when I tried to get my undergrad at UT Texas in Austin in 95. My undergrad major was deaf education. So now I have been an LMT for the past 4 years, since 2001. Have 1500 hours of massage training from Swedish Institue in NYC and Austin Massage school in TX combined. Reason to go back to school is to get a secure job that will give job security and health benefits in the work force. Questions: Should I go back to school when it will take me about 7-9 years for this degree, I'll be 50. Should I just continue in massage knowing well I won't be able to do this in my later years? What do I need to do to start the process in going back to school? I'm in NYC and looking at the San Francisco (UCSF/SFSU) or Texas State in San Marcos. All feed back would be appreciated.

First of all, you are never to old to go back to school. It really has everything to do with motivation. If you have the desire, then do it. If not, dont waste your time because you wont do well. You will have to do it for yourself and to be totally truthful with you, you have to do it for internal reasons not external ones like money. External reasons for behavior do not, in most cases, have long term success rates. Things that relate to your value system and desires are more stable and tend to remain the same.

To answer you other question about how to get back into school. Personally what I would do is talk to some local physical therapists and ask them where they went to school and if there are any local programs available. Also ask them for requirements needed to get into the program. I'll be honest with you, a 1.59 GPA is not going to cut it in any program. (Not saying this to put you down by the way) Hopefully with age and maturity you'll do better than that. Most older student do do better after going back to school by the way… they have different standards, needs and values.

Good luck with you,
Daniel

He is graduating this semester and is gonna continue his education at another in-state college. He seems like the perfect guy for me. He did ask for me to send him a picture a month ago and he commented saying i was still beautiful…(by the way we are in different cities now…45 minutes away)
He seems like he is interested but im not sure…..how can you tell guys….(in the not -so-obvious ways)?

Playing with your hair and a back massage, yep he is interested. Suggest going out on a "friends" type date. He should show his hand.

I just completed a 125-hour fundamentals of massage course, and would like to do massage work part time while I continue my education. I have been in the computer industry (programmer) for the last 10 years, so it's a big change in direction. Any ideas on what kind of resume I should put together? How much emphasis should I place on previous jobs and skills which are not really related to bodywork? Thanks for any input.

You definitely want to create a functional resume vs. a chronological resume. There are lots of sources on the web to help you do this. You want to create sections like, "Business Experience", "Accomplishments" and then list a short chronology of your work experience. These advices came from my friends I met on a site called pubspa. I met these friends on the site because we have the same interest – massage. We usually talk together. Besides, we share blogs, videos, music and games.

I am currently enrolled in a massage therapy program and will be graduating in july and sitting for my state boards in august. I am very intersted in shiatsu. we have a short class in it, more of an introduction. I am considering attending school to become a shiatsu therapist. Are there any schools in NYC that have a program just for shiatsu? Everything I have found is another massage program. I would like to have extensive training in shiatsu and oriental medicine. I know that I can take continuing education courses, but I would really like to immerse myself in the subject. Thanks:)

Try Pacific College Of Oriental Medicine

I have more info. I'm going to email you.

As of now I'm going to school to get my license for massage therapy and I want to continue my education in the medic field. I'm really intersted in going into phys. therapy. If i went and studied premedicine before going into the graduate program would that cover all the prereqs needed for phys. therapy? Does anyone have any recommendations on schools in CA for this or any other majors that would be more beneficial to get started?

Majors that can help you get the necessary and beneficial courses to gain admission to a physical therapy program are pre-physical therapy or pre-med, but most schools don't offer these majors, just select schools. So, biochemistry with focus on anatomy and physiology is good, exercise physiology is another good choice, and so is kinesiology.
